Q. What are your recent releases?

Our latest release was our sixth album Any Day Now, which was released on June the 21st last year. It took us quite a while to record, a lot longer than any of the others, but it was definitely worth it. We ended up with a 14 track album, and a unique set of arrangements thanks to our friend Milos Dodo Dolezal, a renowned Czech musician and producer, who recorded, mixed and mastered the album for us.

Q.How did you get into creating music, what is your journey so far?

I’ve been playing guitar since I was a kid, my dad was a musician, so I found it came naturally. I started the band with him on bass and a drummer in my hometown Karvina, which is on the Czech/Polish border as a Hendrix Revival in 2000. We started writing original material shortly after and rebranded to Andy Marshall Band to release our first album in 2003. I moved to Brno, the second largest Czech city in 2010 and met our current bassist Vlado through a mutual friend, Vlado was studying at law school at the time. We joined another band together and he joined AM Band shortly after. In 2018 our drummer at the time decided to move away for work, so we started auditioning for someone new, which is how we met our current drummer Petr. We both clicked with him instantly, he’s brought a fresh, modern vibe to the band, which recently led to the decision to record another album, so we’ve been quite busy writing the last few months.

Q. Who are your influences and what is on your play list right now?

Each one of us has slightly different influences. I grew up on the likes of Jimi Hendrix, The Doors and Thin Lizzy; our drummer Petr enjoys Bring Me The Horizon, Rage Against The Machine and Polaris; and our bassist Vlado listens to Them Crooked Vultures, Alice In Chains and Royal Blood. I think the sound of the band is a mixture of all of our influences. We’ve been leaning towards a more modern sound since Petr joined us in 2018.

Q. What's your most memorable gig so far? And what made it stand out for you?

One of the highlights for me was definitely playing the Rock for People festival in Hradec Kralove (a city in western Czechia) in 2010 where we performed for a few thousand people, it was a great weekend and a great show.

Another great gig was a small festival last year in a village called Mysteves, where we played to about 100 people who were crammed inside a barn. We played so loud we thought the place was going to collapse around us! Everyone there was friendly and supportive, and we had a great evening with the locals. It doesn’t matter to us how many people we play for, if we get a reaction as good as we had there, then every second is worth it.

Q.If you could collaborate with any artist dead or alive who would it be?

In terms of who I’d love to meet, an evening out with Phil Lynott and Lemmy would definitely be top of the list, but I’m not sure I’d survive it(!) It’s hard to think of a musician or a band that would fit our style, but if I had to pick one I’d say Janis Joplin. She’d be great to record an album with, she has a completely unique vocal style.

Q. What's coming up for you next?

The next few months are going to be pretty hectic for us, we have our first session booked in the studio in March to start recording our new album and are looking forward to touring later on in the year. Once the album is ready we’ll book a few more gigs locally to promote it.

Wall Between Us:

Q. Any gigs coming up?

A lot of our time at the minute is focused on finishing writing and recording the new album, but we have a gig coming up in Prague in a couple of months, and we’re in the process of booking short tours in Slovakia and Austria in the Autumn. We’re also looking into a UK tour next year, which we’re all really excited about.

Q. Is there anything else you want everyone to know about you and your music?

I started this band twenty years ago now, and what makes it special to us is keeping the energy of the band raw. Both live and recorded. We record live whenever possible and try to keep the mixes colourful and the post-production as minimal as possible, we’ve never been too big on following trends, and strive to give people something that’s a little unique.
